A superyacht is a large pleasure boat with luxurious features. Veritable floating palaces, superyachts are only accessible to a few lucky owners. Strictly speaking, there is no exact definition of a superyacht in the boating world. As a general rule, superyachts are boats that exceed 30 metres in length. These yachts are also found under the name of megayacht.
In general, there is nothing to define that yachts of several metres in length or of a certain price are called superyachts. A motor sailing yacht around 9 metres in length and fairly luxurious is called a yacht. A superyacht or megayacht is a luxury motor or sailing yacht measuring between 30 and 180 m in length. All with staff catering to the needs of guests and owner to provide the highest level of comfort.
As a result, a superyacht is characterised by its luxury and amenities. The largest models can carry up to 20 people without detracting from their peace and comfort. For example, each cabin is air-conditioned with its own interior fittings: shower, bathroom, television and seating area.
Yachts were originally sailing ships designed to hunt pirates. The word yacht comes from the Dutch word "jacht" meaning "hunt". It was anglicised by King Charles II of England, who went into exile in Holland. He fell in love with yachting and brought it back to England in the 17th century. Yacht clubs became very popular for yachtsmen during these times.
Subsequently, the term yacht designated a pleasure boat, whether sailing or motor. The yacht gradually evolved, becoming longer, wider and more luxurious.
