In honour of International Women's Rights Day, let's take a look at a Yachting profession, with Emmanuelle, accountant at Abys Yachting.

Emmanuelle describes her daily life as a woman in a predominantly male professional environment. She shares her feelings, her vision of the profession and her recommendations for women who aspire to work in yachting.

In the yachting sector, they can be found in positions such as sales representative, branch manager or, as shown here, accountant... In honor of this day dedicated to women, we wanted to highlight their careers in yachting, with Emmanuelle, our accountant at Abys Yachting. Emmanuelle's career has grown with her affinities and opportunities, and she continues to enrich herself in a world of "passion, dreams and escape".

International Women's Rights Day is an anthem of victory that celebrates women's equal civil rights in society. It is a day of action, awareness-raising and mobilisation to perpetuate this struggle in honour of women, equality and justice. This is a movement that has been making itself heard since the beginning of the 20th century through feminist struggles on the European and American continents. In 1977, the United Nations decided to make 8 March official, encouraging the whole world to rally to the cause.

1. COULD YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION AS ACCOUNTANT AT ABYS YACHTING?

I've been working closely with the accounts and finance manager at Abys Yachting for 13 years.

2. WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?

I arrived in the yachting sector by chance. It was a career change for me, as I come from the banking sector. I started out on a professional training contract for a year and was offered the chance to continue the adventure on a permanent basis, which I accepted!

3. WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN TASKS?

My job is to record all incoming and outgoing flows, analyse them and summarise them to get a clearer picture of the health of the company. This involves processing purchase and sales invoices, expense reports, charter accounting and bank flows. It also involves preparing tax returns and financial reports, drawing up balance sheets and managing payrolls.

4. HOW DOES WORKING IN YACHTING DIFFER FROM WORKING IN OTHER SECTORS?

This profession opens doors to all sectors of activity, particularly the yachting sector, which is not the easiest. Tax and legal rules are constantly evolving, which means we have to be constantly on the alert and up to date with the latest French and European directives. To do this, we take part in training courses on intra-Community taxation and VAT as applied to the yachting sector, on customs regulations, and in RIF meetings, for example.

5. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO WOMEN WISHING TO WORK IN THIS SECTOR?

Stereotypes are hard to break. When we talk about accountancy and yachting, we often think that these are men's jobs. But things are changing in both sectors, even if not at the same speed. Generally speaking, I recommend that women dare to believe in their ability, their strength and their intelligence, and to be more determined than ever to achieve their goals. Yachting represents, among other things, passion, dreams and escape, in which we are all major players, whatever our gender.
